Are you looking for the top 10 experiences to have in Australia? Well, look no further! After spending 2 weeks travelling the east coast of Australia we have put together the top 10 things you just have to do when visiting. So grab your flipflops and book those flights now!
1 – Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge Lookout
Rather than spend all that money on climbing the Syndey Harbour Bridge, why not save some for a beer later and climb the Bridge Lookout instead? You’ll get pretty much the same views and its cheaper! What’s not to like!
2 – Walk from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach
One of my favourite of the top 10 Australian experiences to have was the coast walk from Coogee to Bondi. Visiting Bondi Beach and the famous Iceberg Club is a must if you are near Sydney. So why not walk the 6km of cliff top coastal paths from Coogee to Bondi? You then get the option of stopping at 5 different beaches along the way as well as gaining incredible views.
3 – See kangaroos/wallabies in the wild
If you come to Australia you are going to want to see kangaroos or wallabies in the wild. For this, you need to get out into the sticks away from urban city life. One place we saw roo’s a plenty was through Lamington National Park, (part of the Gondwana Rainforest of Australia World Heritage Area). We even saw the cutest wallabies, pretty faced wallabies, and yes they are called that!
4 – Take a trip to Frazer Island
World Heritage Listed Frazer Island is the largest sand island in the world and well worth a visit too! Hop on board one of the local 4×4 buses (yes they really are!) and get exploring the colourful sand, freshwater lakes and panoramic views.
5 – Visit Kuranda
Kuranda is a unique and colourful village, bang smack in the middle of Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest. It is full to the brim of aboriginal art, street markets and nature. Make sure you take the Skyrail cableway there and the Kuranda scenic railway back for a full experience of Kuranda.
6 – Don’t feed the cockatoos!
This is more of a ‘don’t’ than a ‘do’. These pesky birds may look friendly but boy do they like human food, (especially pizza!). Just take my word for it and do NOT feed them unless you want to be trapped in your room or on a balcony… It was one of the top 10 Australian experiences either way!

7 – Visit the Great Barrier Reef
This is often on the bucket lists of people coming to Australia and it is clear to see why. The reef is astounding, but please bear in mind that certain places are tourist hot spots which are slowly killing off the reef. So research where you want to see it and make sure you don’t disturb it in any way.
8 – Tour Mount Tamborine
If you like rainforest skywalks and macadamia nuts you are in for a treat here! Within easy reach from Brisbane, the area of Tamborine is a welcome contrast from the cities and beaches of Australia. Take to the treetops on a skywalk and enjoy wandering the local markets picking up all the delicacies of the area.
9 – Take a boat out to the Whitsundays
Another place lots of tourists want to visit in Australia is the Whitsundays. Made up of 74 uninhabited islands, the silica white sand beaches alongside the dense green rainforest are a place straight out of heaven! Stay in Airlie Beach for all the options of which islands to venture too.
And last but not at all least…
10 – Enjoy your days in the Ozzie sun!
Drink all the beer, (lemon, lime and bitters is good too!), eat all the fresh food and love life in the sunshine!
And there you have it, our top 10 must do experiences down under! Make sure you check out my other blog posts on Australia about all the other places/things you should check out whilst visiting this beautiful country.
